Calgary Stampeders down three starters against Redblacks

The Calgary Stampeders will be without receiver Reggie Begelton, offensive lineman D’Antne Demery, and strong-side linebacker Derrick Moncrief when they visit the Ottawa Redblacks on Saturday. The team released its official depth chart on Friday morning.

Begelton has been moved to the one-game injured list with a head injury. He was officially listed as questionable on the team’s most recent injury report.

The 33-year-old has made five catches for 63 yards over two starts this season. The native of Beaumont, Texas only recently returned to the field after suffering a fractured leg early last season. The three-time All-CFL selection has made 432 receptions for 5,723 yards and 28 touchdowns over 92 career regular-season games with the Stampeders.

Begelton will be replaced by Erik Brooks, who is shifting over one spot at slotback. Clark Barnes will start in place of Brooks, while Damien Alford will start at wideout.

Demery has been moved to the six-game injured list with an ankle injury. He did not practice this week and was officially ruled out on Thursday’s injury report.

The 29-year-old has made 14 consecutive starts at left tackle this season. The six-foot-four, 322-pound blocker has played 53 career regular-season games over six CFL seasons with the Edmonton Elks and Stampeders.

The native of Brunswick, Ga. will be replaced at left tackle by William Barnes. The 26-year-old native of Apopka, Fla. made three starts at right tackle early this season but was subsequently placed on the practice roster.

Moncrief has been moved to the six-game injured list with a hamstring injury. He was officially listed as questionable for Saturday’s game after practicing for most of the week.

The six-foot-one, 217-pound defender has made 45 defensive tackles, two tackles for loss, two pass knockdowns, one interception, and one touchdown over 14 starts this season. He is a two-time All-West Division selection and one-time All-CFL selection.

The 33-year-old will be replaced by Bailey Devine-Scott, who has spent most of this season on the six-game injured list. Over 46 career regular-season games with Calgary, the native of Westmead, Australia has tallied 31 defensive tackles, 33 special teams tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass knockdown, and one forced fumble.

In other moves, Calgary has activated receiver Jeremiah Hunter, defensive lineman Daniel Grzesiak, and defensive back Lance Boykin, and placed defensive lineman Khairi Manns on the practice roster.

The Calgary Stampeders (6-8) will visit the Ottawa Redblacks (0-13) on Saturday, September 26 with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EDT. The two teams met at McMahon Stadium last week, where Rene Paredes kicked a 62-yard game-winning walk-off field goal.

The game will be broadcast on TSN, RDS2, CTV, and Crave in Canada, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 770 CHQR in Calgary or TSN 1200 in Ottawa.
