CFL fines two, including Riders’ defensive lineman Garrett Marino

The CFL has fined two players following Week 11, one of whom has a long history of supplemental discipline.

Saskatchewan Roughriders’ defensive lineman Garrett Marino was fined for unnecessary roughness on B.C. Lions’ offensive lineman Peter Godber. The hit took place when the play was whistled dead and Marino knocked the centre to the ground.

The fine came in Marino’s first game back from a four-game suspension he was assessed following Saskatchewan’s Week 5 game against the Ottawa Redblacks. Marino was disciplined for a low hit on quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, an illegal hit on offensive lineman Dino Boyd, and uttering racial language at Masoli.

Ottawa Redblacks’ linebacker Shaheed Salmon was fined for a high hit on Edmonton Elks’ quarterback Taylor Cornelius. The the third-year linebacker made his first start of the season this past week, recording five tackles.

As per league policy, the amounts of the player fines were not disclosed.
