It appears Chad Kelly will start for the Toronto Argonauts this week despite having recently suffered a knee injury.
According to 3DownNation reporter Justin Dunk, Kelly opened practice leading the first-team offence on Tuesday. This is Toronto’s first day of practice ahead of the East Semi-Final on Saturday. Kelly is not wearing a knee brace.
The veteran passer went down in the first quarter of Toronto’s loss to the Ottawa Redblacks in Week 20. The injury occurred when he was chased outside the pocket and committed intentional grounding to avoid a sack. He hit the ground hard with his knees as he was tackled, left the field with a noticeable limp, and did not return.
The native of Buffalo, N.Y. did not play in the club’s Week 21 game against the Montreal Alouettes, as Tucker Horn was given the start.
The 32-year-old completed 70.9 percent of his passes for 5,067 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions over 16 starts this season, going 9-7. He has also officially signed a five-year contract extension with the Argonauts, tying him to the team through 2031.
The Toronto Argonauts (9-9) will host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (9-9) for the East Semi-Final at BMO Field on Saturday, October 31 with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET. The teams met twice during the regular-season and split the meetings 1-1.
The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 680 CJOB in Winnipeg and TSN 1050 in Toronto.
