The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed defensive tackle Cory ‘Poop’ Johnson.
Johnson was one the CFL’s leaders in quarterback pressures among defensive tackles last season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Winning a starting job as a rookie in 2017, Johnson remained a first-stringer through the first nine games of 2018.
Demoted to the practice roster, Johnson was eventually released by the Bombers on October 30 upon his request.
Johnson’s addition comes with international defensive linemen Curt Maggitt and Mic’hael Brooks on Saskatchewan’s injured reserve. Johnson is eligible to dress for the Riders in the playoffs and could face his former team if/when Winnipeg and Saskatchewan meet in the postseason.
