The Canadian Football League has appointed Greg Dick as their new deputy commissioner, effective immediately.
“Greg has earned the trust and respect of everyone across our league through his integrity, sound judgment and unwavering commitment to excellence,” CFL commissioner Stewart Johnston said in a statement. “He has played a central role in delivering world-class football operations, strengthening relationships with our clubs and stakeholders, and ensuring the highest standards of competition and governance. In this new role, Greg will be an even more important partner in shaping the future of the CFL and driving our continued growth.”
Dick first joined the CFL in 2016 as senior vice-president of operations and finance. Over the past decade, he has served as chief operating officer, chief financial officer, treasurer, secretary and head of football operations, before assuming his last title of chief football operations officer and head of Grey Cup and events in 2023.
As deputy commissioner, Dick will take on an expanded leadership role on key league priorities, including football operations, competitive integrity, officiating, league governance, strategic initiatives, major events, club relations, player relations, and enterprise-wide projects. He will also serve as a principal advisor to the commissioner and represent the CFL with clubs, partners, government stakeholders, media and fans.
“I am honoured by the confidence Stewart has placed in me,” Dick said as part of the announcement. “The Canadian Football League is an institution that means so much to Canadians and to everyone who has the privilege of working in the game. Canadian football is in an incredible place and we’re carrying tremendous momentum into next season and beyond. I look forward to continuing our work to build on the CFL’s rich traditions and to pursuing new opportunities for growth and innovation.”
Prior to the CFL, Dick held leadership roles at Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Ernst & Young, Streetcar Developments and the National Hockey League Players’ Association. He currently serves as chair on both the Canadian Football Hall of Fame’s board and its selection committee. He previously served on the board of Football Canada.
A graduate of Western University, Dick played on the Mustangs football team as a defensive back. He would win three Yates Cups and a Vanier Cup during his time with the program. He has since been inducted into Western’s Wall of Champions as a builder.
