The Toronto Argonauts have signed American running back A.J. Ouellette to a one-year contract extension, per sources. He was scheduled to become a free agent on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

The five-foot-ten, 210-pound ball carrier started nine games last year after Andrew Harris suffered a pectoral injury and quickly became a household name for his strong play and eye-catching hairstyle.

He recorded 98 carries for 516 yards and two touchdowns along with 38 receptions for 350 yards and one touchdown over 13 regular season games. He remained a factor in the postseason even after Harris returned to the lineup, scoring three touchdowns en route to a Grey Cup victory.

Ouellette signed with the Argos in September 2019 following brief stints with the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints. He has dressed for 22 career CFL games games, rushing for 773 yards and two touchdowns and catching 43 passes for 389 yards and two touchdowns.

The 27-year-old was twice named second-team All-MAC during his collegiate career with the Ohio Bobcats, where he played alongside Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke.
