Saskatchewan Roughriders can clinch playoff berth with win over Calgary

The Saskatchewan Roughriders can clinch a playoff spot this weekend with a win over the Calgary Stampeders, the CFL confirmed on Tuesday.

The Green and White can still finish mathematically as high as first place or as low as fifth place in the West Division standings. However, a win against Calgary on Friday would guarantee that the team can finish no lower than fourth.

The Roughriders won their first game against the Stampeders by a score of 40-37 back in Week 3. Trevor Harris threw for 349 yards and three touchdowns in the victory at McMahon Stadium. Kian Schaffer-Baker was his favourite target on the day, as the native of Mississauga, Ont. caught eight passes for 130 yards and two scores.

Saskatchewan has lost four of its last six regular-season games, including two losses to the B.C. Lions. The team lost 31-24 against B.C. this past week, which cost them the head-to-head season series.

The Roughriders have made the playoffs for two-straight seasons, and won the 112th Grey Cup at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg last November. They currently sit third in the West Division standings at 8-6.

As has been previously announced, the Montreal Alouettes, Edmonton Elks, and Toronto Argonauts have each clinched postseason berths, while the Ottawa Redblacks and Hamilton Tiger-Cats have been eliminated from playoff contention.

Four teams will make the playoffs from the West Division by virtue of the crossover.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (8-6) will host the Calgary Stampeders (7-8) on Friday, October 2 with kickoff scheduled for 9:30 p.m. EDT. The Roughriders are coming off a loss to B.C. that bumped them to third place in the West Division, while the Stampeders completed their two-game sweep of Ottawa.

The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 620 CKRM in Regina and 770 CHQR in Calgary.
