The Montreal Alouettes have released former all-star kick returner Chandler Worthy.

The 30-year-old had the second-best kickoff return average in the CFL this past season, returning 48 kickoffs for 1,136 yards, 56 punts for 544 yards and one touchdown, and four missed field goals for 96 yards.

The native of Griffin, Ga. missed time due to an ankle injury and was replaced by rookie returner James Letcher Jr., who made an instant impact with two return touchdowns over just four games. The 24-year-old remained during the playoffs, busting a 105-yard kickoff return touchdown late in Montreal’s stunning Eastern Final upset of the Toronto Argonauts.

Worthy was set to earn $140,000 in hard money in 2024 plus up to $24,000 in playtime and performance incentives. In 45 career CFL games, he has recorded 3,156 kickoff return yards, 1,633 punt return yards, 315 missed field goal return yards, and three return touchdowns.

The Alouettes will open the 2024 season on June 6 when they visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Princess Auto Stadium for a Grey Cup rematch.
