Calgary Stampeders sign Jacksonville State standout Tre Stewart

The Calgary Stampeders have signed American running back Tre Stewart, the team announced on Monday.

The five-foot-nine, 192-pound ball-carrier was most recently a member of the Arizona Cardinals. He played two preseason games with the team and recorded 52 rushing yards and eight receiving yards.

The native of Winston-Salem, N.C. played for the UFL’s Orlando Storm in 2025, dressing for five regular-season games and making one start. He rushed 28 times for 109 yards and caught four passes for 27 yards.

The 23-year-old originally signed with the Minnesota Vikings after going unselected in the 2025 NFL Draft, but was released at the conclusion of training camp that year.

Stewart played collegiately at Jacksonville State University, where he recorded 278 carries for 1,638 yards, caught 18 passes for 234 yards, and scored 26 touchdowns over 14 games. He was named first-team All-Conference USA.

The Stampeders have also released American defensive lineman Nevaeh Sanders, who recently joined their practice roster.

The Calgary Stampeders (6-8) will visit the Ottawa Redblacks (0-13) on Saturday, September 26 with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EDT. The two teams met at McMahon Stadium last week, where Rene Paredes kicked a 62-yard game-winning walk-off field goal.

The game will be broadcast on TSN, RDS2, CTV, and Crave in Canada, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 770 CHQR in Calgary or TSN 1200 in Ottawa.
