Tre Ford limited in practice with Hamilton Tiger-Cats, status unclear

It remains unclear who will start for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at quarterback this week, as Tre Ford was limited in practice due to a head injury, according to the team’s official report.

“We’re still waiting on full clearance for Tre,” head coach Scott Milanovich told the media on Monday. “We’re just gonna see how the week goes.”

The 28-year-old completed four-of-nine pass attempts for 75 yards in the team’s 37-22 loss to the Toronto Argonauts in Week 14, though he suffered a head injury on a 23-yard touchdown run late in the first half. He did not return for the second half.

The native of Niagara Falls, Ont. has completed 63.9 percent of his passes for 1,293 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions, and rushed 38 times for 419 yards and one score this season. He’s gone 1-5 as a starter.

Harrison Frost took over the controls from Ford after the injury took place and completed 16-of-28 pass attempts for 218 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The 27-year-old has made two starts this season, posting a 1-1 record.

Hamilton has an uphill battle to make the playoffs this year, and it won’t get any easier this week when the Montreal Alouettes come to town.

The Alouettes have a six-point lead for first place in the East Division but are coming off a frustrating loss to the B.C. Lions. Tempers flared multiple times during the game in Vancouver, with franchise quarterback Davis Alexander voicing specific frustration regarding defensive end Mathieu Betts.

However, it doesn’t seem Milanovich is concerned about the Alouettes coming to town with any extra motivation, suggesting they’re ornery by default.

“They’re always angry,” he said. “That’s a reflection of (head coach Jason Maas), I think. They’re gonna be fired up. Hopefully, the long flight home took a toll.”

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (4-9) will host the Montreal Alouettes (10-3) at Hamilton Stadium on Friday, September 18 with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT. Last week, the Alouettes lost 48-29 in a gritty game against the B.C. Lions, while the Tiger-Cats were on bye.
