The Toronto Argonauts have signed American linebacker Vi Jones, the team announced on Monday.
The six-foot-two, 225-pound defender attended training camp with the Saskatchewan Roughriders earlier this year, recording two defensive tackles, two special teams tackles, and one interception over two preseason games. He joined the practice roster with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in August.
The 28-year-old defender signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and appeared in three games as a rookie. He subsequently spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recording two forced fumbles and nine defensive tackles in seven games in 2024.
The Austin, Texas native joined the Cardinals for training camp in 2025 and registered 10 tackles in three preseason games, though he was cut among Arizona’s final roster moves.
Jones earned over $1 million USD while playing in the NFL.
The Argonauts have also released American quarterback Paxton DeLaurent, American defensive lineman Monkell Goodwine, and American defensive back Yam Banks.
DeLaurent dressed for one regular-season game in Toronto but didn’t register any statistics. The six-foot-five, 229-pound passer most recently played for the Orlando Pirates of the Indoor Football League (IFL). He completed 70.5 percent of his passes for 3,142 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions over 17 games in 2026. He also rushed 108 times for 391 yards and 17 scores to be named the IFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Goodwine joined the team’s practice roster in September but didn’t see any regular-season action. He spent the final two years of his collegiate career at the University of South Carolina. The six-foot-four, 278-pound defender made 46 total tackles, five tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and one pass knockdown over 25 games. He signed with the Minnesota Vikings after going unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft but was waived in June.
Banks joined the team’s practice roster in September but didn’t see any regular-season action. He was a two-time All-Sun Belt selection at the University of South Alabama before transferring to Ole Miss in 2024. The five-foot-eleven, 210-pound defender played one season with the Rebels, and recorded 21 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and three pass knockdowns.
The Toronto Argonauts (9-8) will host the Montreal Alouettes (13-4) at BMO Field on Friday, October 23 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. Montreal is coming off a tight loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in which their top offensive players didn’t play, while the Boatmen lost a tight game to the previously winless Ottawa Redblacks.
The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS2 in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 690 (English) or 99.5 Montreal (French) in Montreal and TSN 1050 in Toronto.
