Winnipeg Blue Bombers place Zach Collaros on six-game injured list

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have placed Zach Collaros on the six-game injured list. The team issued an updated depth chart and roster list on Thursday morning.

According to the team’s official injury report, the veteran quarterback is dealing with a head injury. He was a non-participant in practice this week.

The 38-year-old has gone 5-4 as a starter this season, completing 70.6 percent of his passes for 2,204 yards, 11 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Being placed on the six-game injured list does not guarantee that a player will miss that many games, as they can be activated early.

When Collaros missed time earlier this season, he was initially placed on the one-game injured list before being subsequently moved to the six-game injured list. The native of Steubenville, Ohio ended up sitting out a total of four games.

Over 181 career regular-season CFL games, Collaros has completed 68.1 percent of his passes for 38,187 yards, 227 touchdowns, and 123 interceptions, and rushed 274 times for 1,506 yards and 11 scores. He is a three-time Grey Cup champion and two-time CFL Most Outstanding Player.

Dru Brown will start at quarterback against the Toronto Argonauts on Friday night. The 29-year-old made four starts in place of Collaros earlier this season, going 2-2, including a win over Toronto.

The five-foot-eleven, 200-pound passer has completed 70.2 percent of his passes for 1,148 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions this year.

Over 77 career regular-season CFL games, Brown has completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 8,980 yards, 51 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions.

With Collaros out of the lineup, the Blue Bombers have moved Canadian quarterback Taylor Elgersma from the reserve roster to the active roster. He is listed as the third-string quarterback.

Winnipeg has not made any other changes to its depth chart from the Banjo Bowl. The team is 1-0 against the Argonauts this season, having won 30-21 at Princess Auto Stadium in July.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (7-6) will host the Toronto Argonauts (8-6) on Friday, September 25 with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EDT. The Blue Bombers were on bye last week, while the Argonauts upset the Edmonton Elks by a score of 24-19.

The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 1050 in Toronto or 680 CJOB in Winnipeg.
