Saskatchewan Roughriders sign two, release two

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American receiver Marcus Sanders Jr. and American defensive lineman Treven Ma’ae, the team announced on Monday.

Sanders Jr. recently attended training camp with the Minnesota Vikings but was released at its conclusion. He signed with the team after going unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The six-foot-one, 190-pound defender played collegiately at Georgia Southern University, where he made 85 catches for 1,217 yards and eight touchdowns over 46 games. As a senior, he caught 50 passes for 797 yards and five touchdowns in 13 games.

Ma’ae (pronounced: ‘Muh-eye’) signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2025 but was waived at the conclusion of training camp.

The six-foot-three, 291-pound defender finished his collegiate career at Baylor University, where he recorded 51 defensive tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, five quarterback hurries, and two pass deflections over 25 games. He was named an All-Big 12 honourable mention as a senior.

The 25-year-old previously played at the University of Oregon, where he tallied 32 defensive tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks, and one pass deflection over 29 games.

The Roughriders have also released Canadian receiver Vyshonne Janusas and American defensive back Millard Bradford III.

Janusas joined the Roughriders as a free agent in August following his release from the Calgary Stampeders. He played one regular-season game but didn’t make any receptions.

The five-foot-eleven, 229-pound target was originally a fifth-round pick in the 2025 CFL Draft out of the University of Guelph. He played 10 regular-season games as a rookie with the Stampeders, making two catches for 14 yards. He caught two passes for 12 yards in 2026 prior to his release.

Janusas caught 71 passes for 1,010 yards and eight touchdowns over 16 collegiate games with the Gryphons, and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player in 2024. He also returned 30 kickoffs for 800 yards and one touchdown.

Bradford III joined Saskatchewan’s practice roster last week.

The five-foot-eleven, 190-pound defender played three regular-season games with the New Orleans Saints in 2024 after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent. He later had stints with the Chicago Bears and Calgary Stampeders. He was also on Saskatchewan’s practice roster earlier this year.

The native of DeRidder, La. played collegiately at Texas Christian University, where he made 231 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss, one sack, four interceptions, 19 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries over 58 games.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (8-6) will host the Calgary Stampeders (7-8) on Friday, October 2 with kickoff scheduled for 9:30 p.m. EDT. The Roughriders are coming off a loss to B.C. that bumped them to third place in the West Division, while the Stampeders completed their two-game sweep of Ottawa.
