Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ quarterback Zach Collaros has been ruled out for the remainder of the Labour Day Classic against the Saskatchewan Roughriders after suffering a suspected head injury.
The 36-year-old exited the game with little more than a minute remaining in the first half after absorbing a late shoulder check to the head from Riders’ defensive tackle Miles Brown. A roughing the passer penalty was assessed on the play, in addition to a pass interference call in the end zone, and Collaros remained down on a knee for several moments while being tended to by trainers.
Chris Streveler took over for the ensuing touchdown plunge and Collaros retreated to the sidelines, though he did not enter the medical tent. However, he returned after halftime in street clothes and was officially ruled out for the remainder of the contest. The two-time CFL Most Outstanding Player has a previous history of head injuries, as a concussion ended his tenure in Saskatchewan back in 2019.
Collaros completed 12-of-18 passes for 218 yards, one touchdown, and one interception as the Bombers built a 29-14 lead at the half. In 12 games this season, he has thrown for 2,701 yards, seven touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
Streveler completed just four-of-six passes in relief for 46 yards, as the Bombers held on to win 35-33.
