The Edmonton Elks have signed American receiver John Franklin III.
The six-foot-one, 186-pound target spent the past two seasons in the USFL as a member of the Tampa Bay Bandits and Memphis Showboats, recording 14 receptions for 181 yards and three touchdowns.
The 29-year-old previously spent three seasons in the NFL with the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, rushing for 11 yards in 2019.
The native of Lunebeburg, Germany played quarterback over a five-year collegiate career that included stints at Florida State (2013-14), East Mississippi Community College (2015), Auburn University (2016), and Florida Atlantic (2017). He starred on the first season of the hit Netflix reality show Last Chance U.
The Elks will open their 2024 regular season by hosting the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday, June 8.
