Regina Rams, Saskatchewan Huskies playoff game delayed five hours due to high winds

The football rivalry between the University of Regina Rams and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies will get a few additional hours to simmer on Saturday due to inclement weather.

The Canada West semi-final playoff game between the two schools has officially been delayed five hours and will now kick off at 7:00 p.m. CST at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon, Sask. The decision was made on Friday in consideration of player and fan safety amid the forecasted weather conditions.

According to the Weather Network, wind gusts of up to 92 kilometres per hour are expected in Saskatoon on Saturday, with estimates of 84 kilometres per hour at the original kickoff time of 2:00 p.m. CST. Fans can now expect slightly cooler temperatures, but gusts of just 56 kilometres per hour.

The Huskies (6-2) and Rams (4-4) met just once during the regular season, with the Saskatchewan prevailing 38-31. The winner of this game will advance to the Hardy Cup conference championship game.

Fans in Saskatchewan not wishing to brave the elements can watch the game on SaskTel maxTV as part of the Canada West Football Showcase. The game will also be streamed live on BioSteel Canada West TV.
