Calgary Stampeders rule out Dedrick Mills against Redblacks

The Calgary Stampeders will not have their star running back in the lineup for Saturday’s clash with the Ottawa Redblacks.

Dedrick Mills has officially been ruled out this week after missing all three practices with a hip injury. The 29-year-old ball carrier currently sits second in CFL rushing yards, behind only Winnipeg’s Brady Oliveira.

In 13 games this season, Mills has recorded 157 carries for 943 yards and four touchdowns. He has also caught 28 passes for 235 yards and two majors.

The native of Waycross, Ga., has been a fixture of the Stampeders’ backfield since 2022, amassing 4,536 rushing yards, 1,082 receiving yards, and 24 total touchdowns. He was named All-CFL in 2025 after leading the league in rushing.

Return specialist Tyreik McAllister could see a larger workload at running back in Mills’ absence, while Canadian backup Ludovick Choquette has handled relief duties in the past. Former Toronto Argonaut Deonta McMahon is the only other running back currently under contract with the team.

Also ruled out for this week are a pair of key Canadian contributors in cornerback Ben Labrosse (knee) and receiver Dejon Brissett (elbow). Labrosse has recorded 22 total tackles and five interceptions this season, while Brissett has caught 25 passes for 417 yards and five touchdowns.

Veteran American receiver Reggie Begelton (knee) is listed as questionable after making his official return to the lineup last week. Defensive backs Zy Alexander (shoulder), Jaydon Grant (shoulder), and Bailey Devine-Scott (hamstring); defensive lineman Charles Wiley (ankle) and special teams standout Jesulayomi Ojutalayo (ankle) are all listed as available.

The Calgary Stampeders (5-8) will host the Ottawa Redblacks (0-12) at McMahon Stadium on Saturday, September 19, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. Last week, the Redblacks suffered a narrow loss to the Toronto Argonauts, while the Stampeders got blown out by the Edmonton Elks.

The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on TSN 1200 in Ottawa or 770 CHQR in Calgary.
