Saskatchewan Roughriders bring back Grey Cup winner Aaron Patrick

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have brought back American defensive lineman Aaron Patrick, the team announced on Wednesday.

The six-foot-five, 250-pound defender was placed on the team’s retired list in May when he didn’t report to training camp. He is now back with the team.

The 29-year-old played 16 regular-season games in 2025, and recorded seven special teams tackles. He remained on the roster in a depth role during the playoffs, including the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg, though he didn’t register any statistics in the win over Montreal.

The native of Dayton, Ohio played 17 regular-season games over parts of two seasons with the Denver Broncos, registering 11 total tackles. His NFL career came to an end midway through the 2022 season when he suffered a torn ACL. He’d previously been a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, though he never dressed for a regular-season game with the team.

Patrick played collegiately at Eastern Kentucky University, where he a first-team All-American, three-time All-Conference selection, and the Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2019. He recorded 27.5 career sacks with the Colonels, finishing 1.5 back of the program record.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (6-4) will host the Toronto Argonauts (5-5) at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday, August 29 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Argonauts are coming off a 39-20 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, while the Roughriders lost in Vancouver by a score of 30-16.
