Ottawa Redblacks sign two, cut one

The Ottawa Redblacks have signed Canadian linebacker Daniel Kwamou and American defensive back Lento Smith Jr., the team announced on Wednesday.

Kwamou was originally a fifth-round pick in the 2022 CFL Draft out of the University of British Columbia. He dressed for nine regular-season games with the Toronto Argonauts as a rookie in 2023 and made eight special teams tackles.

The native of Calgary, Alta. missed the entire 2024 season due to injury, though he still won a Grey Cup ring. He split the 2025 season with the Boatmen and Hamilton Tiger-Cats, dressing for seven regular-season games and tallying five special teams tackles.

Smith Jr. finished his collegiate career at the University of Tulsa in 2025, where he was a second-team All-Conference selection. Over 11 games, he made 76 total tackles, two tackles for loss, five pass knockdowns, one interception, and one forced fumble.

The five-foot-nine, 185-pound defender attended rookie minicamp with the Baltimore Ravens after going unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft. He previously played at Ferris State, where he won an NCAA Division II National Championship in 2024.

The Redblacks have also released American offensive lineman Jamar McGloster.

The veteran blocker has played 34 regular-season games over his CFL career with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Redblacks, and Montreal Alouettes. The Syracuse product played 14 games for the Alouettes last season and helped Montreal capture the Grey Cup in 2023. He joined Ottawa’s practice roster earlier this month.

The Ottawa Redblacks (0-10) will host the B.C. Lions (4-5) at TD Place Stadium on Sunday, August 30 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Lions are coming off a 30-16 win over B.C., while the Redblacks were blown out by the Montreal Alouettes.

The weather forecast in Ottawa calls for 23 degrees with a mix of sun and cloud. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS2 in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally.
