Jarell Broxton returns to practice with Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Jarell Broxton was a full participant in practice with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Monday, according to the team’s official report.

The 33-year-old was unable to play in the club’s recent loss to the B.C. Lions due to a knee injury. He was placed on the one-game injured list and replaced at right tackle by Micah Vanterpool.

The six-foot-four, 331-pound blocker started Winnipeg’s first seven games of the season at right tackle. He became one of the CFL’s highest-paid offensive linemen in February when he signed a two-year contract in free agency.

The native of Olney, Md. was named All-CFL with B.C. in 2025. He has played 58 regular-season games over six CFL seasons as a member of the Lions and Blue Bombers.

Dru Brown was also a full participant in practice after leaving Winnipeg’s loss to the Lions with a back injury.

The 29-year-old started the team’s last four games, completing 69.6 percent of his passes for 1,085 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions. He went 2-2 as a starter.

It is expected that Brown will be moved to a backup role as Zach Collaros appears primed to return from a neck injury that kept him out of the team’s last four games.

Star running back Brady Oliveira (ankle) was limited in practice, while Canadian defensive lineman Cameron Lawson (hip) and Canadian linebacker Brody Clark (thigh) were full participants.

Strong-side linebacker Michael Griffin II was a non-participant and appears destined to be out long-term, as he was sporting walking boot on his leg.

“(Griffin) gets asked to do a lot of different things, and of course his body type — he’s one of those guys that’s very versatile in terms of size, speed, and quickness,” said head coach Mike O’Shea on Sunday. “He’s a different type of athlete, so they’re tough to replace, obviously.”

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (4-4) will host the Ottawa Redblacks (0-8) at Princess Auto Stadium on Friday, August 14 with kickoff scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EDT. The Redblacks suffered a 42-20 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders last week, while the Blue Bombers were on bye.

The weather forecast in Winnipeg calls for 23 degrees with a mix of sun and cloud. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS2 in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 1200 in Ottawa or 680 CJOB in Winnipeg.
