The Calgary Stampeders have released American defensive lineman Shaun Peterson Jr.

Peterson dressed for the first five games of this season, starting in Weeks 1 and 2 while Folarin Orimolade was injured. He registered six defensive tackles, including one tackle for loss, one sack, and two pass knockdowns before being demoted to the practice roster in Week 6.

In 2025, Peterson played six games and made three starts as a rookie. He made five defensive tackles, six special teams tackles, and three sacks that year.

The 26-year-old originally signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft, but was subsequently released. The six-foot-three, 240-pound native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. made 14 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble as a senior at the University of Central Florida.

Peterson previously played at Florida International University, where he played running back, rushing 105 times for 478 yards and four touchdowns. He later converted to the defensive line, where he made 28 tackles, eight tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

The Calgary Stampeders (4-5) will return to action on Thursday, August 13, when they host the B.C. Lions (3-5). Kickoff from McMahon Stadium is slated for 9:00 p.m. EDT.
