CFL fines Edmonton Elks’ Noah Taylor for contacting official, disciplines two others

The Canadian Football League has fined Edmonton defensive lineman Noah Taylor for making contact with an official in Week 9.

The incident occurred during the first quarter of the Elks’ 28-26 loss to Saskatchewan, following the extra-point attempt on the Roughriders’ first touchdown. Taylor was assessed a 15-yard objectionable conduct penalty for the interaction.

The 26-year-old was flagged again following Saskatchewan’s second point-after attempt in the second quarter, that time for embellishment during a post-whistle altercation with guard Jacob Brammer. As it was his second misconduct penalty of the game, he was automatically disqualified and had to be escorted off the field of play.

Taylor was held off the stat sheet prior to his ejection. In eight games this season, he has recorded 10 defensive tackles, two special teams tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble.

Two members of the Montreal Alouettes were also assessed fines for their conduct in Week 9.

Defensive back Najee Murray was disciplined for a high hit against Ottawa quarterback Jake Maier, while linebacker Tyrell Richards was docked for a high hit on receiver Justin Hardy. Both plays occurred during their 34-13 victory over the Redblacks.

The CFL’s department of health, safety, and integrity manages league discipline involving fines. The committee includes chief football officer Greg Dick, vice-president of officiating Darren Hackwood, associate vice-president of football operations Ryan Janzen, and associate vice-president of health and safety Eric Noivo.

As per league policy, the league does not announce the dollar amount of fines, discipline related to dress code violations, discipline involving teams or staff, or discipline involving players who have been released. The maximum allowable fine under the collective bargaining agreement is half the value of a game cheque.
