Ottawa Redblacks add Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kedon Slovis to negotiation list

The Ottawa Redblacks have added American quarterback Kedon Slovis to their exclusive negotiation list.

The 25-year-old is currently in training camp with the Arizona Cardinals, where he is competing with rookie Carson Beck for the third-string job. He dressed for two games with the team in 2025, completing one pass for negative two yards. Slovis previously spent time with the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans after going unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The six-foot-two, 223-pound passer first broke onto the scene at the University of Southern California in 2019, where he was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year after throwing for 3,502 yards, 30 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in his first college season. He followed that up by being named first-team All-Pac-12 during the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

After suffering a shoulder injury in USC’s Pac-12 championship game loss as a sophomore, Slovis struggled in his junior season and transferred to the University of Pittsburgh, where he would throw just 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 11 starts. He transferred a second time to Brigham Young University for his final year of eligibility in 2023, but was limited to eight games.

Across five seasons with the Trojans, Panthers, and Cougars, Slovis started 42 of a possible 43 games, completing 64.5 percent of his passes for 11,689 yards, 80 touchdowns, and 39 interceptions. He added three rushing touchdowns, while posting a 28-17 record as a starter.

CFL teams can claim the rights to up to 45 players via the negotiation list on a first-come, first-served basis, provided that they are not eligible for the Canadian or Global Drafts, and have never played in the league before. These players can be added, traded, or removed from the list at any time.

Being added to a negotiation list does not mean that the player has expressed interest in the CFL, and some are unaware that their rights have even been claimed. Players can only force their removal from the list if the team does not provide them with a minimum contract offer at their request.

Slovis has previously spent time on several other teams’ negotiation lists, including the B.C. Lions and Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Ottawa Redblacks (0-7) travel to Saskatchewan to take on the Roughriders (5-2) on Friday, August 7, with kickoff scheduled for 9 p.m. EDT. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS2 in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally.
