The Ottawa Redblacks have signed former Western Carolina quarterback Tyrie Adams, according to a statement released by the Salina Liberty of the Champions Indoor Football League.
The 2021 CIF offensive rookie of the year had been preparing for a game when he received a call on Wednesday night from the Redblacks, according to a report from the Salina Journal. He was under contract 24 hours later.
The six-foot-three, 185-pound pivot had an outstanding college career with the Catamounts, becoming the school’s all-time leader in career completions (739), pass attempts (1,172), passing yards (8,978), passing touchdowns (64), and total offense yards (11,525). He also finished his career ranked fifth in program history with 2,547 career rushing yards.
Considered too slight of frame for the NFL or CFL initially, Adams joined the Salina Liberty to play arena football in 2021. He completed 70.9 percent of his passes for 944 yards and 25 touchdowns with just three interceptions in his first season, helping the team to the top of the CIF standings.
Adams will now have an opportunity to compete for a spot in a crowded Redblacks QB room that includes Jeremiah Masoli, Caleb Evans and Duck Hodges.
