The Ottawa Redblacks have made a whopping 19 roster moves, starting with the addition (or re-addition) of seven players.

Players who were signed to new contracts include American defensive back Douglas Coleman II, American defensive lineman Tre Hornbuckle, American receiver Terry Williams, national offensive lineman Clement Lebreux, Global receiver Anthony Mahoungou, Global defensive back Tony Anderson, and Global kicker Jose Maltos.

Mahoungou is the most notable addition considering he was a first-round pick in the 2021 CFL Global Draft. The Purdue product was in training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018 after making 61 receptions for 880 yards and eight touchdowns over a three-year career with the Boilermakers.

The Redblacks also released twelve players, including quarterback Dominique Davis, running back Patrick Carr, linebacker Jerod Fernandez, quarterback Tom Flacco, defensive back Brad Muhammad, defensive lineman Chigozie Nnoruka, receiver Ervin Phillips, offensive lineman Na’Ty Rodgers, defensive lineman Qaadir Sheppard, receiver Kenny Stafford, offensive lineman Juwann Bushell-Beatty, and offensive lineman Chris Ferguson.

The first eleven players list are American, while Ferguson is a Global.

Davis started two games under centre for Ottawa in 2021, completing 59-of-98 pass attempts for 674 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions. He also rushed 17 times for 69 yards and one score.

This marks the end of the quarterback’s three-year run with the Redblacks after first joining the club in 2018. He threw for 3,263 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions with club following stints with Calgary (2015) and Winnipeg (2015-17).

Bushell-Beatty made seven starts along an offensive line that allowed a league-high 53 sacks over 14 games in 2021, while Stafford was a midseason addition who caught 17 passes for 242 yards and three touchdowns. Muhammad started five games in the secondary, making 14 tackles.
