The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed quarterback Jeremiah Masoli to a one-year contract extension for the 2021 season.

It’s exciting to have Jeremiah back for the 2021 season. He is an established natural leader that has a strong work ethic, as demonstrated by the recovery from his knee injury,” said Orlondo Steinauer in a press release. “We’re pleased that Jeremiah and his family have chosen to get this done in advance of free agency and come back to Hamilton for his ninth year with the team.”

As per 3DownNation insider Justin Dunk, Masoli’s extension includes a $125,000 signing bonus and is worth $350,000 total.

The 32-year-old became Hamilton’s starting quarterback in 2017 after June Jones was named the club’s new head coach. He’s been one of the CFL’s most consistent quarterbacks since, earning an East Division all-star nod in 2018.

Masoli suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Week 7 of the 2019 season. Last week a video was posted to social media showing him perform a number of drills, proving he’s made a full recovery.

The San Francisco native has recorded 13,110 career passing yards along with 70 touchdowns and 45 interceptions. He is also an effective runner, having rushed 224 times for 1,323 yards and 18 scores.

Masoli was set to become a free agent on February 9. He will now return to Steeltown where he and Dane Evans form arguably the best quarterback duo in the CFL.
