USports Football Round Up: Who can stay perfect?

In last week’s USports football action, McMaster Mauraders handed Ottawa their first loss of the season while Montreal, Western, Laurier, Calgary, St. Mary’s and the surprising Waterloo Warriors remain undefeated.

MARAUDERS 24 GEE-GEES 7
HAMILTON – Jackson White threw two touchdown passes as the McMaster Marauders downed Ottawa 24-7 on Saturday to hand the Gee-Gees their first loss of the U Sports football season. White completed 20-of-32 passes for 255 yards with TD strikes to Tommy Nield and Mitch O’Connor. Dylan Astrom ran in a one-yard touchdown for McMaster (2-1). Alex Lavric threw for 133 yards for the Gee-Gee (3-1) with one interception. Lewis Ward supplied the offence with two field goals and a rouge.
The Marauders recorded two safeties.

WINDSOR, Ont. – Backup quarterback Stevenson Bone ran in two touchdowns and starter Chris Merchant threw for 324 yards and a score as Western (4-0) downed the Lancers (0-4).

GRYPHONS 43 VARSITY BLUES 6
TORONTO – Johnny Augustine had two rushing touchdowns and receiver Jacob Scarfone caught two more as the Guelph (2-2) toppled the Varsity Blues (1-3).

GOLDEN HAWKS 40 GAELS 17
KINGSTON, Ont. – Michael Knevel threw for 399 yards and four touchdowns as Laurier (3-0) powered past Queen’s (0-3).

WARRIORS 45 RAVENS 43
OTTAWA – Dion Pellerin ran in two fourth-quarter touchdowns as Waterloo (4-0) rallied to beat Carleton (1-3).

DINOS 76 BISONS 17
WINNIPEG – Adam Sinagra was 15-of-23 for 264 yards and three touchdowns while Michael Klukas caught four passes for 129 yards and two TDs as Calgary (3-0) crushed Manitoba (0-3).

RAMS 28 GOLDEN BEARS 18
REGINA – Noah Picton completed 30-of-42 passes for 334 yards and connected with cousin Mitchell Picton for two TDs as the Rams (2-1) defeated Alberta (0-3).

STINGERS 68 REDMEN 16
MONTREAL – Trenton Miller threw for 472 yards and tosses six touchdown passes, including three to Sam Nadon, as Concordia (2-1) routed McGill (1-2).

THUNDERBIRDS 31 HUSKIES 10
VANCOUVER – Michael O’Connor threw for 431 yards and two touchdowns while and Ben Cummings rushed for 178 yards with a TD as UBC (2-1) downed Saskatchewan (2-1).

CARABINS 28 VERT ET OR 1
MONTREAL – Samuel Caron went 30-of-42 passing and threw for 355 yards with a touchdown as the Montreal Carabins downed the Sherbrooke Vert et Or 28-1 on Friday in U Sports football action. Caron also added 68 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown for the undefeated Carabins (3-0). Sherbrooke (0-4) kept it close for two quarters, with Montreal leading 9-1 at halftime. But the Carabins reeled off 19 second-half points to secure their third win of the season. Conor Sinclair was just 7-of-15 passing for 69 yards and two interceptions for Sherbrooke.

GAITERS 32 MOUNTIES 31 (2OT)
SACKVILLE, N.B. – Mount Allison (1-2) couldn’t get Vincent Dube’s missed field-goal attempt out of the endzone and conceded a rouge, giving Bishop’s (1-2) its first AUS win since switching conference in the off-season.

HUSKIES 17 AXEMEN 10
HALIFAX – Kaleb Scott threw for 272 yards – including a 38-yard touchdown to Tristen Giusto in the fourth quarter – and rushed for 97 more as Saint Mary’s (3-0) beat Acadia (2-2).
