B.C. Lions fire special teams coordinator Cory McDiarmid

The B.C. Lions have fired special teams coordinator Cory McDiarmid. The team made the announcement on Sunday night.

“After careful consideration, and in the best interest of the club, we have decided to relieve Cory McDiarmid of his duties as special teams coordinator effective immediately,” wrote general manager Ryan Rigmaiden in a statement. “We thank Cory for his hard work.”

The native of Nanaimo, B.C. was hired by the Lions last season, helping the team make an appearance in the West Final.

McDiarmid has over 20 years of CFL assistant coaching experience with the Lions, Toronto Argonauts, Calgary Stampeders, Montreal Alouettes, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Edmonton Elks, and Ottawa Redblacks.

He won a Grey Cup with the Lions in 2000 and again with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2013. McDiarmid also won the Vanier Cup in 1997 while serving on staff with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds.

The B.C. Lions (0-3) will return to the field against the Edmonton Elks (3-0) on Saturday, July 4 at the Apple Bowl in Kelowna.
