Ottawa Redblacks sign former Alouettes defender Philippe Lemieux-Cardinal

The Ottawa Redblacks have signed Canadian defensive lineman Philippe Lemieux-Cardinal, the team announced on Friday.

The six-foot-three, 245-pound defender dressed for 10 regular-season games with the Montreal Alouettes last season, recording two special teams tackles. He appeared in the 112th Grey Cup in a depth role.

The Montreal native originally went unselected in the 2022 CFL Draft. He signed with the Redblacks as a free agent in 2023 but didn’t appear in a regular-season game. He joined the Alouettes in 2024 and dressed for one regular-season game, though he didn’t record any statistics.

The 29-year-old was a collegiate standout at the Université de Montréal, where he earned two RSEQ all-star selections, a second-team All-Canadian selection, and a first-team All-Canadian selection. He was also named the RSEQ Lineman of the Year in 2021.

The Ottawa Redblacks (0-10) will host the B.C. Lions (4-5) at TD Place Stadium on Sunday, August 30 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Lions are coming off a 30-16 win over B.C., while the Redblacks were blown out by the Montreal Alouettes.

The weather forecast in Ottawa calls for 23 degrees with a mix of sun and cloud. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS2 in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally.
