Ottawa Redblacks set longest losing streak in modern CFL history

The Ottawa Redblacks officially have the longest losing streak in the modern history of the Canadian Football League.

The team lost to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers by a score of 33-21 at Princess Auto Stadium on Friday night, extending their losing streak to 15 regular-season games. The club last won on Sept. 5, 2025 in a 34-33 victory over the B.C. Lions.

The previous record belonged to the Shreveport Pirates, who lost 14 games to open their inaugural season in 1994. The club folded one year later with an all-time record of 8-28.

According to the CFL’s record book, there are two longer losing streaks on file, though both occurred before the league was formally incorporated in 1958.

Ottawa lost 25 straight games from 1928 to 1932, a run that included four consecutive 0-6 seasons. The team was known as the Senators until 1930, after which it readopted the Rough Riders name it previously used from 1898 to 1913.

The Hamilton Wildcats lost 16 consecutive games from 1948 to 1949, which included an 0-12 the latter year. The team merged with the Hamilton Tigers the following season to form the Tiger-Cats.
