The Calgary Stampeders have added a pair of American quarterbacks to their negotiation list: Ta’Quan Roberson of the University at Buffalo and Jase Bauer from the University of Tennessee-Martin.
Roberson recently completed his final collegiate season and first with the Bulls, making 11 starts. He posted a 5-6 record at the helm, completing 206-of-357 passes (57.7 percent) for 2,520 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 111 yards and three scores.
The six-foot, 200-pound pivot began his career at Penn State in 2019, seeing action in six games over three seasons. He transferred to the University of Connecticut in 2022 and would make 11 starts in two years, before jumping to Kansas State and then Buffalo. Across all four schools, the native of Orange, N.J., threw for 4,708 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions, while running for 269 yards and six majors.
Bauer finished his college career with the Skyhawks in 2025, earning second-team All-Big South recognition. He completed 205-of-288 passes (71.1 percent) for 2,002 yards, 10 touchdowns, and two picks, while running for 479 yards and 10 scores.
The six-foot-two, 215-pound passer originally committed to Central Michigan University and spent three seasons as a Chippewa, starting 10 games overall. In 2024, he transferred to Sam Houston State, but was limited to six appearances and one start. The product of Ankeny, Ia., threw for a combined total of 4,628 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions to go along with 1,351 rushing yards and 24 majors in 35 games.
Both players are eligible for the 2026 NFL Draft.
CFL teams can claim the rights to up to 45 players via the negotiation list on a first-come, first-served basis, provided that they are not eligible for the Canadian or Global Drafts, and have never played in the league before. These players can be added, traded, or removed from the list at any time.
Being added to a negotiation list does not mean that the player has expressed interest in the CFL, and some are unaware that their rights have even been claimed. Players can only force their removal from the list if the team does not provide them with a minimum contract offer at their request.
The Calgary Stampeders weren’t very active in CFL free agency, though they signed former Toronto Argonauts receiver Dejon Brissett, who set a career-high with 907 receiving yards in 2025. The Stampeders didn’t lose any free agents to other CFL teams but had three players sign in the NFL: receiver Damien Alford (New Orleans Saints), defensive lineman Jaylon Hutchings (Minnesota Vikings), and linebacker Jacob Roberts (Minnesota Vikings).
The Stampeders hold the sixth overall pick in the 2026 CFL Draft, which is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. EDT. All CFL training camps are scheduled to open on May 10. Calgary will play its first preseason game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Monday, May 18, and its first regular-season game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday, June 5.
In 2025, Calgary finished third in the West Division standings with an 11-7 record but lost the West Semi-Final to the B.C. Lions.
