The Saskatchewan Roughriders have unveiled a new alternate uniform which proves the sharpest material on earth is obsidian.
Accompanied by an alternate brand logo, the fresh jerseys will be worn as an addition to the team’s regular home, away, and retro uniform rotation. The look will make its debut for the Green is the Colour game on Friday, July 19, and return for Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday, October 26.
“After several years of planning and perfecting, we are incredibly excited to be unveiling these beautiful Rider Nation alternate uniforms and alternate logo to our fans,” Riders’ president and CEO Craig Reynolds said in a statement. “Both were created with Rider Nation in mind and inspired by the province of Saskatchewan, pulling colours from our team, our landscape and our skies.”
“We hope our fans will wear the alternate jersey and logo with pride, as we will, alongside the retro, home and away jerseys we all know and love.”

Obsidian green, the darkest shade before it turns black, is the primary palette for the new uniforms with traditional Rider green and emerald green accents. The three-shade combination is intended to represent the harmony between land and sky in the province.
The alternate logo will be prominently displayed on helmets and shoulder patches on jerseys. It features an italicized ‘S’ for Saskatchewan in two colours, united in the middle by a wheat spike with 13 kernels, a nod to the 13th man of Rider Nation. The wheat spike is also featured down the helmet mid-line.

The new uniform is the first for the Riders since the franchise updated its home and away jerseys in 2016. The retro look typically used for Labour Day Classic games has been in rotation since 2007.
Saskatchewan opens the 2024 regular season on Saturday, June 8 when the Roughriders visit the Edmonton Elks.
