Super Bowl LVIII was a smash hit among Canadian television viewers, making it the most-watched Super Bowl ever and one of the top five most-watched English-language broadcasts in our country’s history.

According to a press release from TSN, the game garnered an average television audience of 10 million people in Canada across CTV, TSN, and RDS and reached 19 million unique viewers, almost 50 percent of the Canadian population. The audience peaked at 12.6 million viewers during the halftime show, which was headlined by Usher.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 25-22 on Sunday to win their second consecutive Super Bowl and third in five years. Patrick Mahomes was named the game’s Most Valuable Player after he completed 34-of-46 pass attempts for 333 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also ran the ball nine times for 66 yards and threw the game-winning touchdown to Mecole Hardman in overtime.

The Super Bowl always attracts many big-name guests, though this year’s contest was especially celebrity-focused as Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce is in a high-profile romantic relationship with international music star Taylor Swift. Kelce caught nine passes for 93 yards in the game, leading his team in both categories.

This year’s Super Bowl was played at Allegiant Stadium, the home of the Las Vegas Raiders, in front of 61,629 fans. The 49ers were two-point favourites.

Sports media analyst Adam Seaborn reported that CTV charged over $200,000 per 30-second commercial and was anticipating approximately 8 million viewers on Sunday.
