The B.C. Lions have signed American running back William Stanback to a one-year contract, per sources.

The 29-year-old was released by the Montreal Alouettes at his request this past week, allowing him to sign before CFL free agency officially gets underway next week. He recorded 625 carries for 3,716 yards and 11 touchdowns over 62 regular season games with the club, twice being named a CFL all-star and winning the Grey Cup in 2023.

The six-foot, 233-pound ball-carrier was 3DownNation’s third-ranked free agent at his position. He was the highest-paid running back in the CFL this past year, earning just over $160,000 in La Belle Province. His new contract was negotiated by Darren Wilson.

The Lions will open their 2024 regular season on Sunday, June 9 when they visit the Toronto Argonauts at BMO Field.
