The Edmonton Elks have released Canadian linebacker Adam Konar.

The 30-year-old defender had one year remaining on his contract with the club and was due to receive a $17,500 offseason bonus on January 15, per source. He made 17 starts for the team in 2023, registering 73 defensive tackles.

Konar was originally selected by Edmonton in the third round of the 2015 CFL Draft and has spent six of his eight CFL seasons with the Elks, save for two years with the B.C. Lions in 2019 and 2021. The native of Vancouver B.C has suited up in 101 career CFL games, making 221 defensive tackles, 37 special teams tackles, five sacks, four interceptions, and four forced fumbles.

Edmonton also confirmed the release of quarterback Taylor Cornelius, which was first reported on Thursday, January 4. The Elks avoid a $100,000 offseason bonus for the 28-year-old but will still be on the hook for $100,000 in guaranteed salary next season.

The Elks open the team’s 75th anniversary season on Saturday, June 8 by hosting the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
