Riders Duron Carter fined after trying to rip opponent’s head off

The CFL has fined Saskatchewan Roughriders receiver Duron Carter for a particularly nasty play in the Riders 43-40 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Canada Day.

During a second quarter interception return by the Bombers T.J. Heath, Carter grabbed the face mask of Winnipeg linebacker Sam Hurl, twisting him around 180 degrees. Carter, somewhat unbelievably, was not penalized on the play.

Carter is no stranger to league discipline and controversy. While a member of the Montreal Alouettes last season, Carter was suspended one game by the league after bumping Ottawa Redblacks coach Rick Campbell near the sidelines after scoring a touchdown.

The Alouettes eventually released Carter after a practice altercation with quarterback Rakeem Cato and he signed with the Riders in January.
