Murray Clarke officiated his final CFL contest when he presided over the recent preseason game in Langford, B.C. between the Edmonton Elks and B.C. Lions, according to a league press release distributed on Wednesday.

The 65-year-old native of Victoria, B.C. has finished his career with 605 games officiated, making him one of the longest-tenure officials in league history.

“When I started, I was just trying to make it through every season,” Clarke told CHEK News last week. “Then after a while I started setting goals, 500 games, then more. I ended up over 600.”

“The reason I lasted was I’m not from a CFL city … I’m not opening the newspaper every day and seeing what they’re saying about me.”

The CFL is entering the 2026 season with 47 officials from the Canadian Professional Football Officials Association (CPFOA).

The league’s new longest-tenured official is Andre Proulx, who has officiated 464 games over 28 seasons. Others with over 350 games of service include Ben Major (355), Tom Vallesi (358), Rob Skaggs (384), and Jason Maggio (391).
