Ottawa Redblacks add QB Brad Jackson to negotiation list

The Ottawa Redblacks have added American quarterback Brad Jackson to their negotiation list. The move was reflected on the CFL’s official tracker on Monday.

The 20-year-old dual-threat passer is currently a redshirt sophomore at Texas State University. He has gone 2-2 as a starter this season, completing 68.4 percent of his passes for 854 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 106 yards and one score.

The six-foot, 197-pound passer became the team’s full-time starter in 2025, going 7-6 and earning a third-team All-Sun Belt selection. He completed 71.3 percent of his passes for 3,224 yards, 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also rushed 174 times for 744 yards and 17 scores.

The native of San Antonio, Texas saw limited action during his true freshman season in 2024, recording one passing touchdown and four rushing scores.

CFL teams can claim the rights to up to 45 players via the negotiation list on a first-come, first-served basis, provided that they are not eligible for the Canadian or Global Drafts, and do not have CFL veteran status. These players can be added, traded, or removed from the list at any time.

Being added to a negotiation list does not mean that the player has expressed interest in the CFL, and some are unaware that their rights have even been claimed. Players can only force their removal from the list if the team does not provide them with a minimum contract offer at their request.

The Ottawa Redblacks (0-14) will host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (4-11) on Friday, October 2 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Tiger-Cats were eliminated from playoff contention following last week’s loss to Edmonton, while the Redblacks continued their winless season against Calgary.
