Toronto Argonauts bring back Nic Toomer, move one to retired list

The Toronto Argonauts have brought back American defensive back Nic Toomer, the team announced on Monday.

The six-foot-two, 199-pound defender attended training camp with the team earlier this year but didn’t make the final roster.

The 25-year-old played collegiately at Stanford University and Indiana University, recording 55 total tackles, five pass deflections, one sack, and one interception over 35 games.

The Argonauts also announced that Canadian defensive back Istvan Assibo-Dadzie has retired.

The native of Brampton, Ont. was a fourth-round pick in the 2025 CFL Draft out of the University of Windsor, and spent part of his rookie year on the practice roster.

The 24-year-old recorded 86.5 tackles and five interceptions over 30 collegiate games with the Lancers. He earned a first-team OUA all-star selection in 2024 and a second-team OUA all-star selection in 2023.

The Toronto Argonauts (8-6) will visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (7-6) on Friday, September 25 with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EDT. The Blue Bombers were on bye last week, while the Argonauts upset the Edmonton Elks by a score of 24-19.

The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 1050 in Toronto or 680 CJOB in Winnipeg.
