Montreal Alouettes bring back QB Caleb Evans

The Montreal Alouettes have signed American quarterback Caleb Evans to a one-year contract, the team announced on Tuesday.

The six-foot-two, 210-pound passer spent the past three seasons with the Alouettes, though his 2025 season was cut short due to a knee injury. 3DownNation reported in July that his knee had fully recovered and he was looking to return to the CFL.

The 28-year-old originally began his CFL career with the Ottawa Redblacks in 2021. Over 63 career regular-season games, he has completed 62.4 percent of his passes for 3,667 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions. Evans has also rushed for 989 yards and 33 scores.

The native of Mansfield, Texas led the CFL in rushing touchdowns in 2022 and won a Grey Cup with Montreal in a depth role in 2023.

Evans played collegiately at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where he threw for 9,513 yards, 58 touchdowns, and 34 interceptions.

The Montreal Alouettes (9-2) will host the B.C. Lions (6-5) at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium on Friday, September 4 with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT. Last week, the Lions crushed the Ottawa Redblacks to win a fifth-straight game, while the Alouettes snapped their seven-game winning streak with an upset loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The weather forecast in Montreal calls for a high of 21 degrees and a 30 percent chance of showers. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada, and CFL+ internationally.
