Redblacks release receiver Kenny Shaw

Ottawa has released receiver Kenny Shaw.

The 26-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Redblacks in February 2017, but after playing three games making six catches for 66 yards Shaw tore his ACL, ending his season.

Shaw caught 77 passes for 1,004 yards and five touchdowns in 2016 when he rose to prominence in the CFL.

Ottawa gave Brad Sinopoli and Diontae Spencer substantial raises in the off-season and that along with the injury factored into letting Shaw loose.

  1. It’s a tough sport when you get injured, especially an ACL which is a long recovery period. You never know if a player can recover fully and have the confidence to go all out again.

  2. I’m not surprised he was cut because his contract was probably fairly high. I’m more surprised they cut WR Josh Stangby who was pretty decent in limited playing time

    They cut Stangby?? Omg
Kavis – cmon jump on this

  4. The cheapest of the cheap salary wise will back up the starters at WR for the Redblacks. Overall potential will be factored in but only at the lowest salary available. The ways of the CFL thru out the league.

  5. Too bad…..Shaw still has game, but salary cap would be the primary factore I’m sure. As for the other two, Stangby was on an entry level so that’s a head scratcher. Mcduffie, god I hope Spencer stays healthy.

i have to believe there are some signings on the horizon, likely on defence

Cmon Popp!! Sign Shaw for Argos.

  8. I bet this has something to do with Johnny Manziel. Shaw probably refused to play unless Ottawa acquired JM, but they refused.
