Anthony Allen slams Riders after release

Running back Anthony Allen doesn’t sound particularly pleased by the way the Saskatchewan Roughriders handled his return and eventual release from the team.

According to Allen, assistant vice-president of football operations and administration Jeremy O’Day called in early June and to see if he was willing and able to return to Saskatchewan after playing for the club in 2014 and 2015. The 28-year-old spent last season with the Riders and was a free agent at home in Florida when O’Day called and it sounds like Allen gave up quite a bit in order to resume his football career.

Allen had six carries for 25 yards in Saskatchewan’s 25-25 ties with Edmonton, then had just one carry for six yards as the Riders ran the ball just four times while getting walloped 42-10 by the B.C. Lions.

Ridiculous really. Jones has cut the same guy twice. It makes your head spin and really shows how Rutter less this organization is. Having said that you know the saying Mr Allen. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me

they are searching for a long term Wes Cates; the guy who got them 5, 10, 6 yds always of tough running/ for 10 seasons/ then he too was released by the gone now GM. / future planning/ so Allen keep him on the practice squad define his role and tell him we need the reliable guy to get our yards/ 5,1,9. Oh OL counts/ too /

  3. training camp is for finding the right guys. hes not the right guy. sorry but

    • horsieland // June 17, 2017 at 6:43 pm //

That’s a very dismissive answer. Who is the right guy? Jones doesn’t seem capable of finding the right guy.

Jones could save a lot of face a respect if he’d just go to Reynolds and the BOD and admit he is in over his head. Take a pay cut and concentrate on coaching instead

Jones is an absolute a hole. Even life long Green fans hate his guts. The other coaches in the CFL none to fond of him either.

        • Ya it’s probably the same 10% of Ridernation that are the pleasant fans who hate everything. The ones that want to run every QB out of town and throw sh*t bombs at kickers houses…. You know the ones the rest of us are embarrassed of. I’m guessing you are one of those prizes too!!!

MmmBacon: I agree, it’s just that simple.

It’s pitiful how some interpret certain cuts.

  4. Why would he quit his job and come in the first place? All he had to do is look into the situation and see he was being brought in as a camp body because of injuries

  5. Scottsask // June 17, 2017 at 7:08 pm //

Or they’re happy with Greg Morris who plays his butt off.

  6. green rider // June 17, 2017 at 7:11 pm //

Sounds like the Riders & how they treat players.

  7. The part that stings is the reason that was apparently given for cutting him… that he hadn’t been there for enough time. Ridiculous. He was used, plain and simple. They knew what he can do and his blocking was very sound. They wanted him to measure the other RB’s against. Rude. He deserved a chance to compete at running the ball at least, then if cut on that evaluation, fine.

I guess Marshall will be week 1 starter. Thought they rally wanted a National at RB when they signed LaFrance and Morris. Seems like a fairly tactless transgression by Rider admin.

Every move Jones makes has ‘scumbag’ written on it.

  10. horsieland // June 17, 2017 at 8:01 pm //

The list of former players with grievances against Jones is growing. He is going to get a reputation as a guy you don’t want to play for. Winning can provide a lot of forgiveness but when you don’t have that either you’re doomed

Bottom Feeder Reporting yeah its an emotional time and things are said but there is always 2 sides to the story. If this promoting / Reporting on the Cfl no wonder fan support is failing

    • horsieland // June 17, 2017 at 9:44 pm //

Look at the facts!! Whether if not you want to take this man’s personal tribulations into account Jones barely gave this guy a chance and he’s now cut him twice!!! Why? What are the riders lacking in there scouting? They should have found plenty if their own talent during the off season

  12. Jones will probably be trying to land Shakir Bell.

  13. Agreed. But why not sign Bell a long time ago? He’s a good back. Maybe LaFrance still works out but never understood it. Very few touches, not great career average/carry.

Jones and Murphy have a big day of shopping tomorrow. It’s like black Friday or Boxing day tomorrow to them

It’s always fun reading your predictions which never come true.

      • horsieland // June 18, 2017 at 12:26 am //

A great deal if my predictions come true. 2 examples just came to mind

        1) You were all convinced Franklin was coming in a trade involving one of your receivers.I said no way.. I was right

        2) You all thought J Michael Deane was signing with Riders. Again I said no and went as far as say he was going to Toronto. You all said never because Toronto already had so many Canadian O-linemen. I said you can never have too many. Again I was bang on!!!

        • You all were convinced? i never once said that franklin would be traded here. I have taken the position that MANY rider fans have, that Franklins a free agent after the season and they would rather try to sign him there. So much for your credibility

        • So 2 Rider fans posted that Franklin is coming and that accounts for all of use. You are worse the the media. Any moron can run around and find the flighty predictions and dispute them with huge accuracy. Welcome to the club horseland. Now go to mrwhatshisnames moms house and eat chips and giggle over how smart you think you are.

  15. Just for the record, the Riders didn’t play Edmonton in the pre-season, their tie was with Winnipeg. Esks woulda beat ’em.

  16. horsieland // June 18, 2017 at 1:10 am //

    IMO Jones is a sociopath.

  17. Ladd Law // June 18, 2017 at 10:34 am //

He made it his choice. Sour grapes after the fact is weak on him. Nothing was promised to him, it’s a try out. Get over it man.

    • horsieland // June 18, 2017 at 10:54 am //

Wow! It shocks me the attitude. If course all players understand they may not make a team. Allen was bought in and not even given a chance. He changed his life’s plans to come for that chance. Jones must have given him some sort of idea if his intentions and clearly one of 2 things happened. Either Jones lied to him or the riders are such a mess and so bad they couldn’t execute their evaluation plan in the last preseason game

      • BleedzGreen // June 18, 2017 at 8:35 pm //

Has it occurred to you that perhaps Allen bombed in camp and/or was outperformed and THAT’S why he wasn’t given game time? Of course not, you’d sooner turn this into one of your anti-Rider/anti-Jones rants – Much more fun that way isn’t it?

        • horsieland // June 18, 2017 at 11:30 pm //

He wasn’t given a chance!!!!..and if he bombed that bad that’s on Jones for hastily signing him. I seem to remember a lot if rider fans giddy with this signing

      • were you there to see he wasn’t given a chance or are taking the biased response of a man who was just cut and is worried his CFL career is over? Wow it really sounds stupid when I put it like that doesn’t it, but you must be used to that because I’ve read too many of your posts.

  18. horsieland or Mrloser or whatever you want to call yourself,
You honestly have no clue… You gave us 2!! predictions, and even then wow! great you called us out what 2 times? Even with those(not very good predictions), all you spew is verbal diarrhea. I’ve literally seen you comment on Riders(because i’m a rider fan and CFL fan) and stamps stories only. You really do have a huge jealous heart for us Green and White fans. Not a single person on this site can take you serious, except your other 1 stumps friend you have, that drops the occational comment (unless thats you too ;))
Its training camp man, any one person has a chance to be cut(including veterans) Maybe its possible he wasn’t in game shape, or was getting outperformed by the other backs. Its very possible… but in your eyes, its instantly Jones’s fault. Talk about someone missing his old Defensive Co. Wasn’t that a grey cup winning Defence that he controled? Pretty sure they were first in the league that year on the defensive side of the ball. Oh and lets not forget every other stop he made, pretty sure he had some other Grey Cup winning defences(take a look at his ring collection). Again why don’t you just worry about your team. Lets not forget, Once Bo Levi goes down…Than whats next for the stumps? Exactly! Just thought I would throw it out there.
