The Toronto Argonauts have signed Canadian receiver Kevin Mital to a one-year contract extension that will keep him in Double Blue through 2027.

Mital tied for the CFL lead in receptions in 2025 with 102, becoming the first Argonaut to do so since Chad Owens in 2013 and the first Canadian to cross the 100-catch threshold in franchise history. He set further career highs with 886 yards and four touchdowns.

“I am thrilled to sign this extension in Toronto,” Mital said in a statement. “I love competing here, I love the city, and I want to bring another Grey Cup home where it belongs; for my family, my teammates, this organization, and our fans.”

Mital was originally selected fifth overall in the 2024 CFL Draft and helped the team win a Grey Cup in his first year, scoring his first CFL touchdown in the big game. In 30 career games, he has caught 120 passes for 1,087 yards and four majors.

The former Laval receiver won the Hec Crighton Award as the top player in U Sports football in 2022, while also being named Vanier Cup MVP as the Rouge et Or captured the national championship. He was first-team All-Canadian in 2022, second-team in 2021, and a three-time RSEQ all-star.

Mital’s rookie contract was originally set to expire after the 2026 season, but he will now remain in Toronto for at least another year.

The Toronto Argonauts (0-0) will visit the Montreal Alouettes (1-0) at Percival Molson Stadium on Friday, June 12, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Argonauts were on a bye in Week 1, while the Alouettes are coming off an overtime victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The weather forecast in Montreal calls for a high of 25 degrees and a 20 percent chance of rain. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada, and CFL+ in the United States and internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on TSN 1050 in Toronto, TSN 690 in Montreal, or 99.5 Montreal in French.
