The Montreal Alouettes are throwing it back to 1974 with a new retro jersey.
The franchise unveiled a brand-new uniform combination for Sunday’s matchup against the Edmonton Elks. The game will be a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 62nd Grey Cup, with the jerseys and helmets being almost perfect replicas of those worn by the winning team.

The uniforms are dark blue with red and white stripes on the shoulders, accompanied by white paint with a red and blue tri-stripe down the leg. The team’s delta logo, used from 1974 until 1981, will be featured on both shoulders as well as the front of the helmet. The blue lids also have white numbering on the sides.
The Alouettes secured a 20-7 victory over Edmonton in the 62nd Grey Cup on November 24, 1974 at Empire Stadium in Vancouver. Quarterback Sonny Wade came off the bench to replace starter Jimmy Jones, completing 10-of-25 passes for 139 yards to be named the Most Valuable Player on offence. Hall of Fame defensive end Junior Ah You was the Most Valuable Player on defence and kicker Don Sweet was the Most Valuable Canadian after he made four field goals and added a single.
A select number of game-worn retros will be auctioned off online, with bidding set to close next Wednesday.
The Alouettes (9-1) will kick off against the Elks (3-7) at 7:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday, August 25.
