The Ottawa Redblacks finished their Week 8 game against the Calgary Stampeders without a running back after starter Ryquell Armstead was ejected early in the second quarter.
The 27-year-old was disqualified following a scuffle with Calgary strong-side linebacker Branden Dozier which resulted in a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness. It was Armstead’s second objectionable conduct infraction in the game, prompting an automatic ejection.
Ottawa chose not to dress a backup running back for the game, bumping Canadian Amlicar Polk to the practice roster this week. Veteran receiver Bralon Addison lined up in the backfield for the rest of the contest, posting five carries for 28 yards. He also caught three passes for 42 yards.
Armstead had four carries for 22 yards through just over a quarter of action, adding two catches for 23 yards prior to his exit. In six starts this season, the Temple product has rushed 75 times for 368 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 16 receptions for 138 yards through the air.
The Redblacks (5-2) led the Stampeders (3-4) at the time of the ejection, kicking a field goal later in the drive to go up 10-3. They didn’t let up the rest of the way, winning 33-6 despite missing a key component of their offence.
