The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have placed veteran receiver Kenny Lawler on the six-game injured list.
The 29-year-old native of Pomona, Calif. caught three passes for 26 yards in Winnipeg’s season-opening loss to the Montreal Alouettes, though he left for the locker room during the second quarter holding his wrist area and didn’t return. It has since been reported that he suffered a fracture to his arm.
“He’s going to need more than a week for sure,” said head coach Mike O’Shea, who didn’t confirm or deny the report regarding Lawler’s injury.
The two-time West Division all-star is the second-highest-paid receiver in the CFL behind only Eugene Lewis of the Edmonton Elks. He made 50 catches for 901 yards and six touchdowns over 12 regular season games as a member of the Blue Bombers last season.
Lawler has caught 218 passes for 3,472 yards and 21 touchdowns over 54 career CFL regular season games.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-1) will visit the Ottawa Redblacks (0-0) at TD Place Stadium on Thursday, June 13 with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT.
