B.C. Lions’ offensive lineman Phillip Norman suffered what the club termed a “significant medical episode” prior to practice on Wednesday. The club has released the following statement updating his status.

Prior to practice, offensive lineman Phil Norman suffered a significant medical episode. Phil is currently conscious and alert and receiving full medical attention. The remainder of today’s activity has been cancelled.

The Lions were scheduled to practice on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. EDT as their second full session ahead of Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Elks. The team remains scheduled to practice again on Thursday before a walkthrough on Friday.

Norman was placed on the one-game injured list prior to the club’s season-opening victory over the Calgary Stampeders. It is unclear whether or not he was going to play in this week’s game against the Elks.

The 27-year-old first joined the Lions in 2018 and has since dressed for 29 regular season games. Last year, he started 15 games at left guard.
