Saskatchewan Roughriders’ defensive back Rolan Milligan Jr. provided fans a glimpse into the early stages of his recovery from injury late Wednesday night.

The 31-year-old posted a picture to Facebook from what appears to be a hospital bed, likely indicating a surgery. He can be seen flashing two peace signs at the camera while wearing a Riders t-shirt and sporting a brace on his injured right knee, with either tape or bandages visible underneath.

“God is the greatest. I appreciate everybody that was a part of my journey,” Milligan wrote as part of the post. “I appreciate everybody that checked in before and after. It’s bigger than me. If you need a light, look this way because I’m chin up and chest out, ready to shine.”

Milligan Jr. was placed on the six-game injured list in Week 9. The 2024 Most Outstanding Defensive Player has appeared in two games during the 2026 regular season and has been forced to exit both times. He has recorded two defensive tackles.

While the Riders have not officially ruled Lake Falls, Fla., native out for the season, head coach Corey Mace told reporters on August 4 that returning in 2026 was “gonna be tough” for the decorated veteran.

In 55 career regular-season CFL games with the Roughriders, Milligan Jr. has registered 218 defensive tackles, 35 special teams tackles, 14 interceptions, two sacks, one forced fumble, and scored one defensive touchdown. He has been named All-CFL in each of the past two seasons.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (6-3) will visit the B.C. Lions (4-5) at BC Place Stadium on Sunday, August 23, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Roughriders are coming off a 26-19 upset loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, while the Lions beat the Calgary Stampeders by a score of 30-26.

The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on 620 CKRM in Regina or 730 CKNW (English) or Sher-E-Punjab Radio AM 600 (Punjabi) in Vancouver.
