Saskatchewan Roughriders put kicker Dawson Hodge ‘through the ringer’

The Saskatchewan Roughriders gave Dawson Hodge a chance to show what he can do at practice at Mosaic Stadium on Wednesday.

According to SportsCage.com, the 24-year-old took every kicking rep and made each field goal he attempted, including a 57-yarder.

“We put Dawson through the ringer like we did with the kickers in camp. He never had a chance to do that. Put him through the ringer, a little pressure-cooker situation. He looked pretty good,” Corey Mace said post-practice.

Hodge was signed on August 6 to provide competition for Global kicker Alex Hale who has struggled at times in his rookie CFL season. The Australian has made 14-of-19 field goal attempts, his 73.7 percentage ranks him second-worst in the three-down league, while he is one-of-five from 40 yards or more in his young career.

Mace replied with “we’ll see” when asked if his team could be making a change at kicker for Saskatchewan’s Week 11 game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday, August 15 at 7 p.m. ET. The reigning Coach of the Year said the Riders will make a decision at the end of the week.

Hodge attended training camp with the Calgary Stampeders in 2026 and the Riders and Toronto Argonauts in 2025. He appeared in one pre-season game for Saskatchewan, converting his lone 31-yard field goal attempt, averaging 64 yards on three kickoffs, and punting once for 48 yards.

The weather forecast in Hamilton calls for 24 degrees and sun. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 620 CKRM in Regina or the Ticats Audio Network in Hamilton.
