The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released Canadian defensive lineman Collin Kornelson and American defensive back Matthew Jackson, the team announced on Wednesday.

Kornelson was initially placed on the practice roster after training camp but dressed for the team’s last five regular-season games in a depth role, recording two defensive tackles.

The 26-year-old was originally selected in the fifth round of the 2023 CFL Draft. He played nine regular-season games in 2025 and made three defensive tackles.

The six-foot-two, 285-pound defender played collegiately at the University of Manitoba where he earned a second-team U Sports All-Canadian selection in 2024. He attended St. Paul’s High School in Winnipeg.

Jackson joined the team’s practice roster in June and was promoted to the active roster in Week 8 against the Calgary Stampeders. He recorded three special teams tackles but was placed back on the practice roster the following week.

The six-foot-one, 209-pound defender spent most of the 2024 season on the practice roster with the Jacksonville Jaguars, though he was also elevated to the active roster for one game.

The 27-year-old spent his entire collegiate career at Eastern Kentucky University, where he tallied 294 total tackles, 27.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, three forced fumbles, 14 pass breakups, and two interceptions. He was twice named a first-team All-Conference selection and earned third-team FCS All-American honours as a senior in 2022.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (4-4) will host the Ottawa Redblacks (0-8) at Princess Auto Stadium on Friday, August 14 with kickoff scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EDT. The Redblacks suffered a 42-20 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders last week, while the Blue Bombers were on bye.
